Senators tied for 10th place after first day at Hermitage

OLD HICKORY — Walters State opened play in the Tennessee State University Big Blue Intercollegiate Monday with a 36-hole score of 47-over par 615, putting the Senators in a tie for 10th place in the 13-team tournament comprised of 11 four-year schools and two junior college teams.

The Senators were in eighth place after posting an opening round score of 304 before closing with a total of 311 to end the long day tied for the 10th spot with Union University at 615.

UT-Martin leads the tournament at 6-over par 574 after posting back-to-back rounds of 287, while host Tennessee State and Wright State are both tied for second at 578. Murray State is fourth at 585, followed by Evansville (587), JUCO’s John A. Logan (596), Detroit Mercy (600), Mississippi College (611), Green Bay (613), Walters State and Union in the top 10.

Chicago State was 12th at 633, while Miles College rounded out the field at 642 in 13th position.

Walters State’s Trey Tobias is tied for fourth place after scoring a two-round total of 1-over par 143 (73-70), while Alex Hodge is tied for 31st at 8-over par 150 after posting matching rounds of 75.

Brandon Nichols is tied for 57th at 17-over par 159 (82-77), Elliott Smith wound up in a tie for 68th place at 163 (79-84) and Sam Pleasant is in 77th place by himself at 172 (86-86).

UT-Martin’s Hunter Richardson (71-69) and Nick Wolf (69-71) are tied for first place at 2-under par 140.

The third and final round of the tournament was scheduled to take place this morning.
